Italian Companies Explore Investment Opportunities in Pakistan

A delegation comprising senior executives of renowned Italian companies explored investment opportunities in Pakistan during a meeting with Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in Islamabad.

Those represented on the delegation included Bellelli Engineering, Electtronica, ENI, CNH, Finmeccanica, ICE, Mpaei, Beretta and SACE. Mr. Carlo Formosa, Deputy Director General, Ministry of Italian Foreign Affairs headed the delegation.

Italian companies shared their plan for possible investment in different sectors including automotive industry, oil and gas, agriculture, security and aviation sectors. The meeting was told that following the recent announcement of auto policy by the government, Italian automotive companies are keenly looking for investment options in the auto sector.

“Pakistan has become fashionable in Italy. People have dee p interest in visiting this country and explore investment opportunities,” said Mr. Formosa.

Finance Minister Dar welcomed the interest of the Italian companies and assured that the government will extend all possible cooperation.

A Pakistan Trade and Investment Forum was organized in Italy this month, with the assistance of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to highlight investment opportunities in the country which has shown an upward trajectory in growth during the past three years.

All other macroeconomic indicators are also showing positive trends with foreign exchange reserves rising and inflation well within the targeted single digit.

Mr. Dar said there were also opportunities to relocate manufacturing from other areas and regions, where it was no longer competitive. He mentioned areas of renewable energy, auto and agriculture machinery manufacturing , and invited Italian business to explore them in detail.
